STEREOTYPES: ARE YOU A VICTIM?

STEREOTYPES: ARE YOU A VICTIM?
Sterotypes are widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
Stereotypes are hurtful and most of the time untrue.

For example:
Most Christians are Christ-like.
Most Muslims are terrorists.

Most guys cheat.
Most Politicians are Liars.
Most Hausas are    rebellious.
Most Nigerians are fraudsters /corrupt.
Most Yorubas are fetish.
Most Edo girls are prostitute.
Most girls are liars.
Most Igbos love money.

These are only a few of the harmful stereotypes out there.
To estimate the probability of the hypothetical series, "majority" fall into either a negative or a positive stereotype , the former often used to condemn a person while the latter is used to praise a person not knowing it could cause more harm than the former because it causes a pre-judgement and leads to bigger problems.

For centuries, people tend to have the feeling that "Igbos like money" ..Abeg who doesn't!
I personally hate stereotypes, I dislike the fact that people think I should act one way because of my sex, tribe, size, or Nationality.
I hate that people think I should hate sports because am a woman, I hate that people think I should be ugly or have a certain look just because of my tribe.
I hate it when people think u shouldn't date him or her because he /she isn't your tribe.

Most YORUBAs have extra-marital affairs and they tend to be irresponsible, most IGBOs tend to love their business or money over family, Most HAUSAs are rebellious.. etc
Why the tribal war when we are under the same Tribe of Judah? We are one!
I hate all of these because people are creating a concept about people based on what they think, but not based on who the person really is.

Stereotyping is a big problem in our Society. It puts labels about how a person should act; like all men like sports or women are not as strong as men. These are among the most common in our society, it has created a distortion of how individuals should be.
The chances are that if you stereotype someone more than once and mean it, it would push them to do irrational things.

More importantly, we should teach newer generations to respect each other regardless of their differences because they grow up thinking that they should be one way because society thinks that's the ideal.
Most people are affected by stereotypes and really don't know it, there is really no person in this whole world that isn't affected by stereotypes.

Nigeria was built on the whole of "freedom "e.g. freedom of expression, freedom of religion etc. Yet, no one really accepts that and there is still segregation everywhere; religion or tribal wise. This is one of the main reasons people do not get along with each other and why people are separated by what they look like, religion or by tribal background.

If we abolish stereotyping, we will finally be able to enjoy life without hates and conflicts.
So I ask you, can we do it??
